Young People

Youth Minister

We welcome Jeremy Yuen as our Parish Youth Minister. Jeremy worked as a volunteer with a Sydney based retreat team during 2005-2006.  He has now taken up two part time positions, one as a Parish Youth Minister (2 days/wk), and another as a Project Officer (1-2 days/wk)for the Young Passionist Encounter for World Youth Day 2008.  Funds are available if either of these positions demand more time.

Youth & Young Adult Ministry

We are a young parish so Young People are a particular focus of Parish Life.  Through our Youth & Young Adult Ministry we try to provide a wide range of opportunities to assist each young person to develop spiritually and socially at different phases of their lives. Some are of a sporting nature, some social, some life sharing, others liturgical.

Junior Youth Group

The Junior Youth Group provides social activities for young people in Years 7-10 of high school.  They meet normally on the 4th Friday of the Month, either in the Annexe or for an outside activity.

Netball Club

Netball is a vigorous sport that assists in the development of young people.  Teams operate over a range of ages and compete in the Under 11’s, Under 13’s, Under 15’s, Under 17’s & Opens.  The two junior competitions are open to boys and girls, the latter to girls only.  Teams compete in both the summer and winter competitions.

Tennis Club

St Paul Apostle Tennis Club has been operating now for over 25 years.  The Tennis Club provides coaching and competition opportunities for young people and older, so as to develop their sporting and social skills.  Competitions are held in winter and summer for young people aged 7 to 77, with awards of Victorian Tennis Pennants available.

The club is family focused, with a variety of social events, as well as social tennis for mixed teams. Well worth having a go at.

Young Christian Students

Started in 2005, this group provides opportunities for young people in Years 10-12 to meet together to review their lives by a time proven model of “See, Judge & Act”.  They meet on Monday nights at 6.30pm, fortnightly.  The adult supporters are young adults just out of school.

Young Christian Workers

As young people move into the world of work, they often have issues they need a peer group to share with.  YCW follows on from YCS and helps young people to share on work related issues.  Again, they meet fortnightly on a Monday night.

Young Passionists & World Youth Day 2008

The Passionists in Australia are sponsoring the Young Passionist Encounter (YCP) in July 2008, the week before World Youth Day in Sydney.  St Paul Apostle Parish is fortunate to be the venue for the Encounter, one that could see up to 500 young adults from across the world being billeted in our homes.  A local Organising Committee is assisting with this.  The sub committees will include people of all ages.  The Passionist Organising Committee consists of:

  • Fr Gary Perritt CP, Marrickville NSW
  • Fr John Pearce CP (Chair), Endeavour Hills
  • Fr Peter Gardiner CP, Darwin
  • Fr Ray Sanchez CP, Brisbane
  • Mr Jeremy Yues, (Project Officer), Endeavour Hills
  • Ms Agnes Lichtor, Melbourne
  • Ms Bridget Flood (Project Officer), Endeavour Hills
  • Ms Michelle Reynolds, Marrickville

On the local scene, we will be inviting parish families to assist with billeting some of our guests, both from overseas and across Australia.  We are asked to make floor space available for them for a week, providing breakfast.  During the days and early evenings they will be engaged in WYD activities at the Church and South School or in the city.
